For past 80 years, since introduction of vinyl as first widespread medium for music reproduction, artists have been releasing music with cover art. Cover art is a visual representation of the audio inside the music release, is it a part of the experience that is created by an artist for the listener. Since then, cover art has been an integral part of music releases, serving as a recognizable symbol for each piece.
When transitioning into the digital era, visual aspect of music was decoupled from sound. This distilled audio experience has been further commoditized with algorithmic suggestions and curated playlists. The music itself was detached from the artist release, and the storytelling magic as been lost.
In Records app, storytelling is at the front - every image on the app is a full, unique music experience. All music navigation is based on images only, resulting in a fully visual, user-friendly interface.
With the findings from music psychology research, we have reimagined the routine and mechanics from the ground up to increase pleasure from music. Records leverages multimodality of music experience, continuity and storytelling for listener to form a stronger emotional connection with music, offering a truly artful music experience.
